A canny little device that saves a lot of struggling about behind furniture, but, it has to be set up first. You have to toggle very small switches in a confined space in the plugs. I used a nail file, strong table light to see in there. The instructions are not too bad except for the diagrams showing which switch is up or down. It shows a oblong box divided in two, one black and the other white but not which is on or off. I tried the instructions given by a previous buyer but could not get it, struggled for about an hour then gave up and used the given instructions in the box. 10 mins and all done.
It appears to do what it is said to but I only give 4 stars as the instructions as usual with many devices need sorting out.BUT, two weeks later, one of the plugs has failed,LED does not light and no sound of click when button pressed. It had flickered a time or two previous days then failed completely, shame.
It was handy. I fail to understand why they can't set this up at the factory, and provide instructions on how to change it if you want to.The instructions need to be read several times, then you need a micro Philips screwdriver, and (ideally) a micro flat head screwdriver. These are set up using small switches (choice of 32 sub-channels to avoid any clash with a neighbour's system, and which set of buttons a receiver/plug responds to). This means the setup info isn't lost during a power cut - the bane of 'plug and play' systems. It's well-made and switching is done with a relay (not a triac) rated at 12 amps. The maximum continuous rating is 1kW, limited by an internal 5 amp fuse (not replaceable by a non-technical user), rendering the 12A relay conservatively rated for surges.It is 100% compatible with the Silvercrest item sold by Lidl in about 2011, even to the extent that the 5th pair of buttons on the Lidl controller can be set to control one of these sockets (select switch E, despite the manual saying you can't use it). So I have extended my Lidl system to 5 controllable circuits and have a spare handset (though this can only control the first four sockets).Note: the manual refers to Schuko (German) sockets, but this item has British 13A connectors.Update after use: The socket is temperature sensitive - we found that the range decreased seriously when it gets hot, as it did when used near stage lights in a theatre. Temperature spec. Is 35degC - we might have exceeded this but there were no lasting effects.
The problem is it has an analogue radio receiver that goes off tune when too hot or too cold.Added extra, which might not be intentional. You can actually control up to 15 individual appliances with one handset! This comes about because if you set more than one of the switches A thru' D in a socket to ON (say A and C), then pressing buttons A and C on the handset will turn that appliance ON or OFF without affecting anything assigned to be controlled by A or C on their own. The proviso is the buttons MUST be pressed and released simultaneously; eg.
Pressing A & C simultaneously but releasing C before A will affect both the 'A & C' and 'A only' appliances. The theoretical 15 circuits are: A thru' D on their own (4 circuits), any combination of 2 buttons (A & B; A & C etc. 6 circuits), any combination of 3 buttons (A, B & C; A, B & D etc. 4 circuits), plus all 4 buttons. The instructions that come with this item are not very clear to say the least.So hopefully the following will make more sense.First you need to label each plug 'A'; 'B' & 'C'. These letters will correspond to the letters on the Remote Control.At the back of each plug is a small screw which you have to unscrew and remove the cover.Inside you will see some very small switches, they are numbered 1;2;3;4;5;A;B;C;D.The factory setting is for all of these to be down except 'D' which is up.First push the 'D' switch down & the 'A' switch up (on the 'A' plug, you'll do the same on plugs 'B' & 'C', but pushing up their respective letter.).Now you have to choose a code using the numbers 1 - 5. You use the same code on all the plugs, plus the remote control.
For example you may use 1;2;3 - You simply push up the switches 1;2;3 & you will already have pushed up the corresponding plug letter.Do the same on the remote control, (Where the battery is) no letters on the remote control switches. That's it, plug in your device and the left-hand button switches the device on & the right-hand switches it off.
Note the 'D' switch is not used. Ordered and received this item within the specified time period. I selected this item based upon the reviews and number of reviews on the Amazon site. Contrary to some of the reviewers I found the setting up of the transmitter and receiver plugs straight forward.
It's strange that the transmitter remote control has 4 sets of on/off buttons but only 3 receiver plugs are supplied with this item and it' s not possible to buy the receiver plugs separately. As it happens I use one receiver plug to switch on/off my CCTV monitor and the other two receiver plugs configured to the same settings to switch on/off two lounge standing lights positioned in opposite corners of my lounge. On the odd occasion when switching on the lounge lights only one switches on, however this isn't a problem as another switch on of the button switches that light on.
I've been using this item for a number of weeks now without problems. I have an electricity usage monitor and there is no significant power used by the plugs them selves which run run cool. 5 stars for this device although it would be an advantage to be able to buy aditional receiver plugs separately as I have two spare sets of on/off switches on the transmitter remote.
Well made and easy to program. For me, setting the little switches is quicker and more certain than the rather vague wireless pairing that my previous set had. Worked straight away, plenty of range.Mine arrived with the body pointing down, as others have reported. So they won't clear the skirting board, and look odd because the writing is all upside down. If you don't mind a couple of minutes DIY it is easy to fix. The only tool you need is a Y5 screwdriver (3-wing 5mm). Remove the two fixing screws, click off the back, lift off the round cover plate.
Bend the red wires to allow you to wriggle the plug unit out, and re-insert the other way round - there are clicks to locate it either way. The wires are thick and need a bit of bending, but will all fit back inside. No electrical work or soldering is required. Then pop back the round plate and the outer cover, and do up the screws again. It is clearly designed to go together either way, but I do wonder why anyone would want it assembled upside down!Now to see whether it lasts longer than my previous Maplin set, which gave trouble almost from the start and died quite young. That pretty much sums up the first five minutes after receiving these.
Very fast and satisfying to switch! Works well at range, and is ideal for a variety of purposes. I'll be using it to switch off a 'bedside' lamp which is nowhere near my bedside? And it'll be worth every penny to stop me having to get out of bed to switch my lamp off when I'm tired. What's even better than turning off your lamp with a remote? Turning off someone else's lamp with your remote!
Yep, the possibilities are endless.As for setup, the instructions are fairly self-explanatory. You'll only need a small philips head screwdriver - and I'd advise writing A/B/C in permanent marker as you set them up.
Unfortunately the battery is CR123a I think which is fine, but I always prefer using AA, or AAA as they're everywhere if you need to replace them.All in all these feel like quality products and work well; very satisfying to use. I would have given this 5 stars if one of the plugs hadn't been faulty. The little screw that you have to take out to to get into the area where you set the 'code' for the plug was well and truly stuck. My attempts to unscrew it (with the correct small screwdriver that had aready worked on the other two) failed completely and started to wear away the top of the screw so that I had no purchase.I was faced with the dilemma of returning the whole set or using brute force to get into the 3rd plug. I was so desperate to get using these that I took the second option and prised oven the compartment from the hinged side. There was then just enough bend in the plastic for me to peel it back and set the code.

I managed to seal it all up again with a small bit of tape. So all 3 plugs are now working.If I'd bought this from a shop I would have gone back and returned the one dodgy unit, or at least told them there was a fault.
But in the world of Amazon it's return the lot or keep it.Maybe someone from Brennenstuhl will read this and take note that some faulty goods are getting out.But still 4 stars because I do love being able to control all my lights with the remote control. I bought these for my PC repair workshop as I have a row of sockets underneath the bench that are right at the back. These are the perfect solution to avoid crawling about under the bench and have freed up 3 sockets at bench height.

Good quality and perfect for me as they are produced with the socket at the top and the body underneath which enable them to fit under the bench.Most I looked at are the opposite way round and cannot be plugged. A great purchase and easy to set up via the little dip switches in a matter of minutes. Absolutely great. I bought two sets. The units actually arrived looking just like the image, with the main body pointing downwards, not upwards, making them look far better in my opinion. Looks like they had a quick tweak of them in the factory due to comments on here, as the actual logos are now upside down at the bottom of the units, guessing they popped them open and altered them or just had excess stock of the old bodies.ANYWAY, they work brilliantly, far better than two other sets that I had bought previously.
As long as you open the access panels on them and alter the DIP switches to your desired settings to differentiate them, happy days. I am a smart person, so this was second nature to me but I can see how this might flummox some people, but the end result is well worth any setting pains people may have.We have a large bungalow with a very large living room. I hooked three of them up to the TV backlight (where the plug is hidden inside a thick Mahogany-topped brick enclosure), main large corner lamp and smaller corner lamp, each one is a bit over 20ft away from the other. Not only does the remote work flawlessly from anywhere in the room, but I took the remote to the furthest point away in the house with the most transmission obstacles (around 60ft or so) and this was no problem either.As far as I am concerned these are an utter bargain at sub £20.

The only tool required is a screwdriver with a small Phillips head bit and a small flat head bit.1) After installing the remote control battery (supplied), you need to set the dip switches inside the battery compartment. I set them to 1, 2 and 3 ON, 4 and 5 OFF.2) Then each receiver in turn needs to be set. Unscrew the small cover on the first receiver, set the numbered dip switches to match the setting on the Remote (1, 2, 3 ON and 4, 5 OFF) and set the Alpha dip switch on to A.3) Repeat 2) above for the other receivers setting the Alpha dip switch on to B for the second unit and C for the third unit.4) I marked the top edge of each receiver in turn with the corresponding Alpha character for easy identification.And that's it!!
